Highlight tracks in this edition include tuba master Joseph Daley’s second volume of his “Tuba Chronicles”, a similar second volume of “Causa Y Effecto” by drummer Francisco Mela and saxophonist/flautist Zoh Amba, pianist Eva Novoa’s new trio with bassist Drew Gress and drummer Devin Gray, and Quiet Tree, a trio from Switzerland. From Europe come the Michal Aftyka Quintet (he’s a fast rising bassist on the Polish scene) and a live set recorded in Berlin by American guitarist Jeff Platz with Michael Attias-saxophone, Meinrad Kneer-bass, and Michael Griener drums. You’ll also hear a rough mix of a track from percussionist Ian Dogole that’s inspired his next album. And we pay tribute to two departed musicians – bassist/poet Larry Roland who died almost a year ago and one of my absolute favourites, pianist Les McCann who died at the end of December.
