If you had asked your holiday gnome to bring you some creative jazz treats, you would be ecstatic with the music debuting in this episode of OMJ. South African saxophonist Linda Sikhakhane is back with a live album: bassist Lisa Hoppe and Third Reality also return with an EP; Finnish guitarist Raoul Bjorkenheim tackles John Coltrane: drummer Arthur Hnatek’s new trio stokes the fires between improv and electronics; Satoko Fujii is joined by Ikue Mori on “Prickly Pear Cactus”, and the powerhouse Scandinavian band The End blows the roof off. Contrast that with a sublime duo by bassist Bernard Santacruz and drummer Michael Zerang and a preview to next year’s De Beren Gieren release. Add the J&F Band’s rockin’ opener, and enjoy!
