This edition of One Man’s Jazz happened to coincide with the 15th International Jazz Day celebrations around the world, so you know that would just encourage me to pop out a whole show of international artists (something that happens pretty much every show), but it also marks the 400th show since I started posting shows to Mixcloud.com. Thanks to all who listen to One Man’s Jazz on Mixcloud, and thanks to the musicians everywhere who make their magic. There are some new releases in this extended edition as well – pianists Alexander Hawkins, Felix Hauptmann & Simon Nabatov, a pair of flautists in Henriette Ellertsen & Laurence Cousseau, Devil’s Gate Outfit from New Zealand, saxophonist Liba Villavecchia’s trio, Transition Unit from Portugal, and a blessing! – a newly discovered recording by the Carla Bley Band, recorded live on radio in 1984 in Hamburg Germany. And a sincere R.I.P. for South Korean saxophonist Soojung Lee who’s in this playlist. I just learned that this very talented saxophonist passed away unexpectedly in January at the age of 27.
