OCTOBER 22, 2026 William Parker’s “Waltz For Gregory” is the feature this week. Though he sets aside his bass for this one, the Parker “mystique” is everywhere as composer, lyricist and composer. There’s much joy in this recording. Two other bassists step up with new recordings: Devra Hoff with a pretty much all solo sonic masterpiece, and Joe Morris reveling in making music with two of his top students. Mediterranean meets New York on “Koper8“, Italian saxophonist Giuseppe Dorondo & Greek guitarist Jannis Anastasakis hook up with Tim Berne & Tom Rainey for some improvisation mischief. Pianist & everything else Thollem gets cheeky with the current political situation on his new “DoReMiAntifa Symphony”. From Europe come new works from England’s saxophonist Paul Dunmall, fellow countryman pianist Stan Tracey saluting Monk, the German trio Altered Forms, South Korean now Amsterdam resident, pianist Chaerin Im, and a tribute to German clarinetist Theo Jorgensmann with the Polish Oles Brothers. There’s also a bit of historical Loft Scene music from the BAG Artists Group recorded live at Sam Rivers’ Studio Rivbea in 1974. 00:00 Adam O’Farrill * Elephant – Out Of Your Head * Flowering * USA
