Over the last few shows, there’ve been several fine new releases by some of the great women jazz players out there, and this week is no exception. English saxophonist Josephine Davies and her trio Satori are back with “How Can We Wake?”, driving bassist Ellen Andrea Wang from Norway leaves her quartet pixel for an interesting trio set with English guitarist Rob Luft, and Canada’s Anna Webber takes the long road with a new extended live piece inspired by a YouTube site. The Webber set is just one of three new releases by Out Of Your Head Records’ new Untamed Series. You’ll also hear part of bassist Nick Dunston’s live set, recorded on an Iphone, and another track from a previously unreleased live set by bassist Michael Formanek, both part of Untamed. Chicago saxophonist Jake Wark is on hand with his latest, as is Ken Field, fine saxophonist and Taint Radio host, with a wholly improvised recording. There’s something new from Bil Frisell’s trio and you’ll hear stunning music from the Portuguese duo ¡Golpe! with bassist Masa Kamaguchi. Much to like this week!
