The cupboard is full this week with some sparkling new releases. Two very important women in today’s jazz world have new albums – Canadian saxophonist Anna Webber and Italian bassist Silvia Bolognesi – that are very impressive. The highly innovative saxophonist composer Steve Lehman hooked up with the Orchestre National de Jazz from France for another unique Lehman recording, while Chicago’s Dave Rempis continues to travel the world with his saxophones. This time he’s playing with two musicians from Belgium. Also coming out of Europe are new albums by the Pasquale Calo Quartet from Italy and the German duo, Dialectic Flow. A special treat is being able to hear music from the NY Loft Scene of the 1970s, this time from drummer Barry Altschul, bassist David Izenson and clarinetist Perry Robinson. There’s so much more, you have to tune into this one.
