New York’s Daniel Carter is one of those rare birds who plays saxophone but also trumpet. Two different embouchures but one great musician. He’s a mainstay at the 577 Records label, and he’s a mainstay of the New York avant garde scene. He has two recent releases out now — “Electric Telepathy Vol. 2” and “Trabajadores De Enerhia” – both featuring 577’s owner, Federico Ughi. You’ll hear tracks from both. Also new this week are debuts by the Chicago Edge Ensemble led by guitarist Dan Phillips, “Skawa” by the Polish/Spanish free jazz quartet of Piotr Damasiewicz (trumpet) & Gzegorz Lesiak (guitar) and Spaniards Liba Villavecchia (saxophone), Alex Reviriego (bass) & Vasco Trilla (drums), two groups from England (Siapiau & trumpeter Charlotte Keeffe’s Right Here Right Now Quartet, and two albums dedicated to famous personages (from France saxophonist Stéphane Payen’s “Baldwin En Transit” & drummer Edward Ware with guitarist Harvey Valdes digging into Shostakovich).
