Putting together these new shows each week is generally fun, but with the steady stream of worthy new releases it would be just as easy to become a little perplexed at all the riches: how can I possibly play them all????? This week’s a good example – there’s so much stuff that I’ve played earlier and want to play more of but then there all of these great releases to choose from: two different live trio sets from drummer Jeff Cosgrove, two piano-led albums that may well show up on best-of lists by Angelica Sanchez and Sylvie Courvoisier, current ECM fave the Maciej Obara Quartet, poet Paul R. Harding, the powerful Portuguese saxophonist Rodrigo Amado and his Bridge Quartet of free-jazz royalty, French guitarist Marc Ducret, the Argentinean duo Nudo, and hometown hero drummer Curtis Nowosad and trio. So much, so good, so you better listen!
