The music of Ornette Coleman continues to be a kind of Mt. Everest for saxophonists, and New York’s Ohad Talmor climbs the mountain on his new “Back To The Land”. Backed by an excellent band, his new album tackles Talmor’s arrangements of unreleased music from a rehearsal recording in the late Lee Konitz’ apartment after Konitz died in 2020. Slovenian pianist Miha Gantar tackles his own compositions in a 5 cd box set called “Amsterdam”. It’s the second such work in two years, released again by Clean Feed. The much-praised Myra Melford’s Fire & Water Quintet is back with another excellent album, and there are new releases by the Scandinavian quartet, I.P.A, Dutch drummer Ruud Voesten, Slovenia’s Acamar Trio, saxophonist-poet Roy Nathanson and newly discovered music by Peter Brötzmann with Japanese drumming legend Sabu Toyozumi.
