Some very edgy recordings highlight this edition of One Man’s Jazz. Bassist Luke Stewart & his Silt Trio bring a power to the Nth degree on the new “Unknown Rivers”, while a Copenhagen Denmark living room hook-up features a much more intimate sound from pianist Soren Norbo, drummer Kresten Osgood and the magnificent trumpet of Wadada Leo Smith. Drummer Jim Black and trumpeter Natsuki Tamura reunite for a blistering romp on “NatJim”, while some tasty ensemble music comes from new albums by pianist John Escreet and bassist Matt Pavolka. There’s music from a joyous pandemic-over live concert in The Netherlands featuring saxophonist Bo Van De Graaf, and master guitarist Bill Frisell and his trio take on a couple of large ensembles on the new “Orchestras”.
