This episode has definitely landed squarely in the avant garde/free jazz department, as several new recordings fall under the One Man’s Jazz spotlight. In the first hour saxophonist Igor Lumpert’s Innertextures is expanded to broaden the approach to Lumpert’s compositions, while the late electronicist J.A. Deane & violinist Jason Kao Hwang approach a level beyond description on “Uncharted Faith”. Hour two continues to work through pianist Satoko Fujii’s “Hyaku: One Hundred Dreams” and saxophonist Ivo Perelman’s magnum opus of reed duos. In the final hour, guitarist Brandon Ross & Pendulum display their passion for stepping way outside most genre’s and the important Norwegian bassist Per Zanussi tangles with the Vestnorsk Jazz Ensemble. Along the way you’ll hear German baritone saxophonist Almut Schlichting on two different recordings where she’s front and center, bassist Javier Moreno with a star-populated band of Buenos Aires players, and Jane Ira Bloom with another excellent set of duo performances.
