There’s a definite Nordic theme in this edition of One Man’s Jazz with music from Amalie Dahl’s Dafnie Expanded, Nicolas Leirtro’s Action Now, Chrome Hill, pianist Matthias Landaeus, a new drummer’s duet from Mika Kallio & Janne Tuomi, and a new release of “favourites” from We Jazz Records’ first monthly compilation “Friends & Neighbours”, which led me to an interesting track from 1970 with bassist Arild Andersen and saxophonist Charlie Mariano (playing the Indian nadaswaram) sitting in with reed players and rhythm from Finland. Other newbies this week include Ivo Perleman’s duo with bassist Damon Smith, Chicago saxophonist Keefe Jackson, the powerful improvisation trio of Joe McPhee, John Edwards & Klaus Kugel, and Montreal drumming legend Guy Thouin with Ensemble Infini.
