This episode has a goodly number of trumpet/cornet/flugelhorn players dotted throughout. It didn’t start that way, but eventually the “theme” became a focus. So you will hear some fine contemporary players, like Brian Groder and his trio, Rob Mazurek (Chicago Underground Quartet), Daniel Rosenboom, Kirk Knuffke, and Nate Wooley (with Harris Eisenstadt). Trumpets are a staple of the big ensembles so expect to hear them in music from Sweden’s Maluba Orchestra, the Webber-Morris Big Band and Satoko Fujii’s Orchestra New York. And the esteemed Charles Lloyd’s newest release also debuts on the show.
