I’m always excited to greet a new recording by Thumbscrew; Mary Halvorson, Michael Formanek and Tomas Fujiwara have become one of the premier trios in creative music. Their latest release “Multi-Colored Midnight” is here and you’ll hear a pair of tracks in the first hour. Also new this week are new albums by Australian trumpeter Jeremy Rose, Chicago multi-instrumentalist Ben Zucker, pianist John Escreet with a terrific trio album, some hard-charging bands from upstate New York, and bassist/composer Mali Obomsawin’s “Sweet Tooth”, a new addition to music of resistance.
