Drummer Gerry Hemingway shows up on a pair of albums debuting this week and both tracks are out on the edge: he’s with the Swiss group, Om, on their latest release “Sudpol”, and he’s leading his own quartet on the second “Live At Bau 4“, a performance space at a lumber yard in the town where he lives in Switzerland. The unstoppable saxophonist Ivo Perelman is back again on “Triacontagon” with guitarist Elliot Sharp & percussionist Cyril Baptista, while rising-star guitarist Emmanuel Michael has maximum audibility on “A Revolving Alliance”, drummer Matt Slocum’s latest. Other new releases arriving are by the Phoenix Trio (Mark Turner, Joe Martin & Marcus Gilmore), trombonist Joe Fiedler’s Sackbut, & the duo of Italian percussionist Massimo Barbiero & German trumpeter Markus Stockhausen.
