Several new releases debut in this edition and most of them feature reed players – the esteemed Louis Sclavis from France on spoken word-music album, the fast rising David Leon recording for the label where he’s the operations manager, Catherine Sikora teaming with pedal steel guitarist Susan Alcorn, Dave Sewelson joining with fiery guitarist Ava Mendoza, clarinetist Ben Goldberg hooked up drummer Vijay Anderson, Davis Rempis on “Truss” and three from Europe: Portugal’s Jose Lencastre, Roby Glod from Luxembourg and Belgium’s Toine Thys with his award-winning band Orlando. Top all of that off with a stunning and powerful recording by bassoonist Joy Guidry, and the final Black History Month segment, and the result is three-hours of great music.
