1300 shows and I don’t have time to celebrate!!! I’m in the midst of a move to a new place so chaos has erupted. Perhaps I’ll string something together belatedly, but then again when was good music not an occasion to celebrate? Like in this set of tunes.
Ingrid Laubrock has become one of the most respected saxophonists working today and her new release “The Last Quiet Place” solidifies that reputation. You can expect to see that album in a number of best-of lists at the end of the year. Other new albums sampled in this milestone show include those of Papanosh from France, Ayumi Ishito and The Spacemen, Portuguese drummer Mario Costa, Italian flautist Carlotta Vettori & CV53, Ivo Perelman with Matthew Shipp and Jeff Cosgrove, and a new find: previously unreleased music by Polish legend Krzysztof Komeda at the first international festival in Prague in 1964.
