Two virtuoso bassists are prominent in this edition of OMJ: Germany’s Sebastian Gramms & England’s Barry Guy. Gramss is a multi-award-winning artiste who has developed his own theories about rhythm while leading various-sized ensembles, all of which present complicated and powerful music. Guy appears on “The First Touch”, recorded at a festival in Poland, in a reunion setting with saxophonist Trevor Watts & drummer Ramon Lopez. This is free jazz at its pinnacle. So is the music on “Wailers” by This Is Our Language, another powerhouse band led by Portuguese saxophonist Rodrigo Amado. German saxophonist Max Treutner has secured German Jazz Prize nomination for his “Zen Garden” and he debuts his talents with a track. Finally, The Last Coat Of Pink from Italy returns with some reworked and new tunes in a new look at the music of Pink Floyd.
