A little archival activity in this edition, featuring music from the free jazz scene in 70s Los Angeles. Paris-based record label, Dark Tree, has a “Roots” series with some of the very important artists of that time and still recognized today: Horace Tapscott, Roberto Miranda, John Carter, Bobby Bradford & Vinny Golia. There’s some great music on these albums. Also a look back, but not too far back in another release in the Sam Rivers Archives Series by NoBusiness Records. Rivers kept a huge collection of cds, reel-to-reel, cassettes and VHS tapes; that’s the source of this material. Volume 6 has Rivers and his trio playing in New Orleans in 2022. Also much anticipated is drummer Gard Nilssen’s debut as a leader on ECM. He’s with his Acoustic Unity trio. And the last hour digs into
a longish set of music from the latest Clean Feed releases.
