New recordings from Europe continue to make their way to One Man’s Jazz. This episode features another three very contemporary bands from Berlin’s Aut Records: Norwegian bassist Dan Peter Sundland’s Home Stretch and two pianists – Max Arsava from Germany & Piergiorgio Pirro from Belgium. Three generations of important musicians from Denmark gathered to make “Strands”: trumpeter Palle Danielsson, percussionist Marilyn Mazur & guitarist Jakob Bro.
Another guitarist, this time from Germany, sent along a burning session with his quartet Derek Plays Eric – Andreas Willers –while from La Plata, Argentina, saxophonist Matias Formica and his quintet dropped some stirring avant music on the show. Not far away, resides the Chilean ensemble, Septeto Del Sur, and they joined steel guitar guru Susan Alcorn for her latest, “Canto”. Illinois produced the fine pianist-composer Rob Clearfield (“Ashes & Diamonds) and one of the most revered and eclectic free jazz saxophonists: Mars Williams. You’ll hear a tribute to Mars who passed away recently.
