This is a tidy 2 hours plus show with some great new releases. Japan’s power couple of the avant garde, Natsuki Tamura & Satoko Fujii are releasing “Ki”, their tenth as a trumpet/piano duet, and this one is special, as they go the balladic route which might raise some eyebrows since they are both known for fiery and vital music. NY saxophonist Sam Weinberg decided the time was right to record his trio at their monthly gig home – Sister’s in Brooklyn, and that cohesion built up over countless gigs makes this trio one to reckon with. Singer/poet Lisa Marie Simmons is back with her third volume of “Notespeak”, and doesn’t disappoint as she takes on the ills and injustice of society. Earscratcher, the raunchy quartet from Chicago, is back with their second album, as is San Francisco alto saxophonist Beth Schenk – “Dahlia” comes out 15 years after her debut. There’s lots more good music in this one
