This episode has an interesting and contrasting mix of music, highlighted by new recordings from German pianist Simon Nabatov with a killer band of NY heavies, trumpet player Dan Rosenboom’s electric trio, guitarist Max Light’s personal journey, drummer Phil Haynes’ double album with two different trios, percussionist Kahil El’Zabar’s tribute to John Coltrane, the ongoing creative partnership of saxophonist Ivo Perelman & pianist Matthew Shipp, Portugal’s Cicero Lee & quartet, more “teasers” from upcoming albums by saxophonists Jason Robinson and James Brandon Lewis’ Red Lily, and more from Germany – the Insomnia Brass Band and the electro-heavy trio, Neon Dilemma.
