New music sampled this week comes from the dream duo of guitarist Mary Halvorson & trumpeter Ambrose Akinmusire, Canadian saxophonist Nicola Miller, Austrian avant garde pianist and zither player Sylvia Bruckner, the large Belgian ensemble Eclectic Maybe Band, Empirical from England, and piano trios: from New York Matthew Putman/Hilliard Greene/Francisco Mela & from England, the already legendary Pat Thomas with bassist Olie Brice & drummer Gary Willcox. Also in the show is “Satoko Fujii’s Bunker Ulmenwall Orchestra”, the first of five large ensemble recordings from Satoko this year.
