It was about six years ago that I first heard Argentinean saxophonist Camila Nebbia and I was impressed. Her energy and power and ideas were solid indications that Camila was on her way to prominence in the avant garde and free jazz world. That’s proved true since with several highly regarded albums & live performances. Now living in Berlin, Camila’s recognition took a new step with two nominations for the 2026 German Jazz Prize, one in the woodwind category and the other for best album – “A Reflection Distorts Over Water” with Marilyn Crispell & Lesley Mok. You’ll also hear her creativity on a new recording with fellow Argentinean reed man, Luis Nacht. Other new releases come from the Nick Fraser Trio with Tony Malaby & Kris Davis (a splendid reunion), Aussie guitarist Hillary Geddes, German saxophonist Bruno Bode, Loft Scene veteran and rejuvenated saxophonist Alan Braufman, “Memphis Mandala” by saxophonists Art Edmaiston & Chad Fowler with the magical drummer, Rakalam Bob Moses, saxophonist Kevin Sun, German bassist Phil Donkin (also with a German prize best album nomination), and fretless electric bassist Arnold Ludvig and his band at Maggie’s Café in the Faroe Islands.
