There are few drummers working the European scene more respected than Norway’s Gard Nilssen. His name pops up on several albums for ECM, We Jazz and other labels, and his resume is filled with names like Maciej Obara 4tet, Bill Frisell, Pat Metheny, Joshua Redman, Ambrose Akinmusire, Bugge Wesseltoft, Fredrik Ljungkvist, Mike Stern, Jamie Saft and Ingebrigt Haker Flaten. With a recent move to a new label, Action Jazz, Nilssen’s just released two albums of unreleased music by his Supersonic Orchestra & his other main band, Acoustic Unity. They’re featured in this episode.
