There is much interesting music crammed into this episode that should find some sweet spots. The recent batch of releases from Clean Feed Records in Lisbon gave us Norway’s Chome Hill, Portugall’s hard-blowing saxophonist José Lencastre with three equally gifted countrymen Jorge Nuno, guitar, Felipe Zenícola, bass and João Valinho, drums, Portugal percussionist Joao Lobo’s “Simorgh”, and a another track from Norway’s Cortex. From Japan comes a pair of releases by the always welcome Satoko Fujii with husband Natsuki Tamura on trumpet and drummer Ramon Lopez on the second. Culture maker Angel Bat Dawid is very forceful on her “Live” album which was recorded in concert in Berlin, and the very unique singer Fay Victor introduces her “We’ve Had Enough” with power. Another great drummer/percussionist, Steve Argüelles is integral to French bassist Hubert Dupont’s new “Trio Kosmos”. And lastly, The Nels Cline Singers are back with a new album as well.
