Record promoters have taken to sending out single “preview” tracks for upcoming releases and there are some notable ones in this edition of OMJ: the trio Flyways featuring pianist Mara Rosenbloom, the duo of soprano saxophonist Jane Ira Bloom collaborating with percussionist Brian Shankar Adler, and bassist Shawn Lovato (not until February for this one.) Bassist/composer Mali Obomsawin has a new live performance track coming out on Out of Your Head Records which may well be a preview of the band on her new 2026 release. There’s some fiery music from trumpeter Peter Evans & Being and Becoming &, Polish pianist Joanna Duda & her trio, some cerebral ensemble music from California’s Nathan Clevenger on “Astrolabe”, and music from the Pocket Quartet, influenced by the hard-boiled fiction and movies of the 1950s & 1960s. Lots more too.
