Two of the finest bassists in the land have new releases coming out on ECM: Miroslav Vitous’ “Mountain Call” with Jack DeJohnette & Michel Portal, and Anders Jormin teaming up with pianist Marilyn Crispell for “Memento”. But that’s not all of the new bassist-led albums on this show – Norway’s Nicolas Leirtro’s new “Action Now” will get your blood pumping, and there’s another new side of German bassist Sebastian Gramss with a different band than you heard on the previous show. This time it’s States Of Play. There’s more new stuff from Norway as well: the Bliss Quintet continues its rise to the top of Norwegian groups, and Chrome Hill, assisted by the Japanese duo DōJō, created “Free Rangers”, which appears to the second-last release by the Clean Feed label. Teiku, a Chicago/Detroit ensemble, presents a muscular take on klezmer, while Harriet Tubman releases its latest encapsulation of modern Black music – “Electrical Field Of Love”. This episode is very highly charged.
