I really impressed myself with the playlist this week. First off I get to play music by a good friend, drummer Nick Fraser and his trio and a tune from another friend, violist Ig Henneman, who is joined on her album by Jaimie Branch and Anne La Berge. Nick has been in Winnipeg several times and so has Ig, most recently in October with Nail Quartet. Nicolas Caloia, the bassist for that band leads Montreal’s Ratchet Orchestra and you’ll hear tunes from this epic ensemble’s latest.
Also debuting this week is “Old New”, an excellent album by cellist Tomeka Reid, KVL from Chicago, French flautist Sylvaine Hélary and Spring Roll, and some fantastic saxophonists, Hugues Mayot (France), Daniel Rorke (Ireland), Mihaly Borbely (Hungary), the always entertaining Piero Bittolo Bon (Italy) and my good friend of many years, Glen Hall from Brampton. I hope you like this one as much as I do.
