This episode of One Man’s Jazz is locked and loaded with some great new releases that touch most corners of the improvised jazz world. The show leads off with drummer Vijay Anderson’s Trio from a session spawned by the Bushwick Series in Brooklyn featuring Ben Goldberg, clarinet, and Adam Lane, bass. Lane returns in the last hour with some stupendous playing on another album via Bushwick, this one with the 8 pm house band. Another clarinetist, Francois Houle from Vancouver, has a new recording called Recoder that solidifies his place at the top of the list of modern clarinetists, while fast-rising star bassist Linda May Han Oh (now with Pat Metheny) contributes her talents to a Monash Session with students at Monash University in Australia. The Fade-In Trio from Italy is very interesting , and so is their debut album “Introspection”. And you won’t want to miss the closing track of this show: pedal steel guitar Susan Alcorn brings a whole new sound of immense interest, aided and abetted by Mary Halvorson, Michael Formanek, Ryan Sawyer and Mark Feldman. Definitely worth hanging in for the full three hours.
