I love this new recording from South African drummer and composer, Asher Gamedze! It’s pushing an envelope I haven’t heard from jazz in that part of the world for some time. Gamedze has produced an exceptional album. You’ll hear the entire “State Of Emergence Suite”. Back again after a highly successful release in 2018 is another drummer, Chicago’s Quin Kirchner with a highly likeable new recording, “The Shadows And The Light “, and also making debuts, a couple of newer things from Toronto from the Rob Clutton Trio and Brodie West’s Eucalyptus, saxophonist Michael Thomas, trumpeter Nate Wooley in two different settings – Icepick and with Whit Dickey’s (yes another drummer!!) excellent double album, “Morph”.
