We’re going all in this week with a complete concert, recorded live in March at The Vortex Club in London. Originally scheduled for the master drummer Louis Moholo-Moholo’s Four Blokes, the gig became Five Blokes when Mark Sanders had to sub for Moholo-Moholo who was ill at his home in South Africa. The music was nevertheless great. Pianist Andrew Hawkins, saxophonist Jason Yarde, bassist John Edwards and Sanders made the night very memorable for what ended up being a benefit concert for their leader.
Another highlight: four of the best on the NY scene: multi-instrumentalist Daniel Carter, pianist Matthew Shipp, bassist William Parker and drummer Gérald Cleaver have just released “Welcome Adventure Vol. 1″ and you’ll hear an extended track. Also in this show, the three originators of Yolk Records (Alban Darce, Jean Louis Pommier and Sebastien Boisseau) finally got together and made a recording of themselves. “Clover” is the result. Drummer Chad Taylor also contributes a track from his new trio album, hot on the heels of his riveting duo release with James Brandon Lewis (there’s a track from them too). It’s all good!
