Many current jazz artists love to honour their predecessors. For saxophonists, John Coltrane and Ornette Coleman are two revered figures. This show finds three different tips of the bell to Ornette by Miguel Zenon, Charles Lloyd and Fredrik Nordstrom. The Oles Brothers from Poland have long admired the work of the iconic trumpeter Andrez Zybielski, and they unearthed a session from years back with Zybielski to pay him due. Also on the bill this week, new releases from trombonist Jeff Albert, Danish pianist Simon Toldam, Italian drummer Enrico Morello, cellist Christopher Hoffman and saxophonist Nick Mazzarella with drummer Quin Kirchner, recorded live at the Hyde Park Jazz Festival in Chicago last fall. There’s also music from Onosante, a re-release by four of the English avant garde scene of years past.
