February is Black History Month and shows this month will feature music from Christian McBride’s “The Movement Revisited – A Musical Portrait Of Four Icons”. Those icons of the civil rights movement are Rosa Parks, Malcolm X, Muhammad Ali and Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. There’ll be other material along the way as well. This week it’s music from avant garde saxophonist and culture maker Matana Roberts’ latest chapter in the Coin Coin series. Making debuts on the show this week are the sharp trio Carniaux-Goldman-Carniaux, French guitarist Pierrick Franc and his quartet, Montreal saxophonist Mehdi Nabti, a reunited Chicago Underground Quartet and English free style greats, Evan Parker and Paul Lytton.
