You may have noticed that this show consistently includes new releases. I guess it’s just my desire to keep things fresh all the time. This episode features five new releases that are all different, all creatively crafted, and all bloody good. Drummer Chet Smith’s fascination with Haitian music coalesces on his new “Path Of Seven Colors” with his killer ensemble, We All Break. Across the Atlantic, the German quartet Absolutely Sweet Marie has its own fascination: the music of Bob Dylan with their third set of interpretations of Dylan – “Wherever You Roam”. The Norwegian trio of Aksel Rönning have just released their debut “ART” and it’s an indication of a very good future.
The past played a part in the formation of the Blue Reality Quartet, building from a recording that saxophonist Michael Marcus and drummer Jay Rosen were part of. A festival in Europe was the spark for the quartet. Joe McPhee and Warren Smith round out that veteran band. And the past is part of singer/multi-instrumentalist Jen Shyu’s new “Zero Grasses – Ritual For Losses”, where she pays homage to her late father. This is a fine show. Hope you check it out!!!!
