There’s definitely a European slant to this episode as a number of interesting recordings popped onto the OMJ radar. Bassist Jasper Hoiby, leader of the popular English trio Phronesis, has a new album of his own coming soon, so there’s a taste of that, as well as one from another bassist, Miguel Angelo & MAU from Portugal. I’m really enjoying my first listen to Italian saxophonist Fabio Delvo’s music, and Forefront also from Italy is a very interesting piano trio. French saxophonist Alexandra Grimal sent along another release, this time a duo with pianist Giovanni di Domenico. That’s very fine stuff. Then there’s a teaser from Deep Ford, a trio with a couple of guys I admire greatly: keyboardist Benoit Delbecq and drummer Sylvain Darrifourcq along with saxophonist Robin Fincker. The French avant garde is represented well. And two albums from closer to home will be stirring up plenty of reaction: saxophonist Dayna Stephens’ trio on “Liberty” and firebrand trumpeter Daniel Rosenbooms’s “Absurd In The Anthropocene”. Plenty more too. I really like how this show turned out.
