....it's TaintRadio, as in www.taintradio.org . The show has moved after many hours of contemplation and waffling and thought. Same great music, just a different platform. TaintRadio started in 2008 as an outlet for independent producers and is fast developing a reputation for eclectic programming of all stripes and tastes. The first program on TaintRadio is Thursday January 19th at 9 pm Eastern, 8 pm Central, and hopefully every Thursday night thereafter. Rebroadcasts on Monday mornings for you night owls/early risers at 4 am Eastern, 3 am Central. I will be posting playists as usual, plus archives of each new show for streaming and downloading, right here on www.onemansjazz.ca. Watch for those links. |

Scott Menhinick, a longtime ally in jazz from Improvised Communications, has just announced that JazzDIY, an online trade journal for the 21st century jazz musician, is up and running. You can find it at JazzDIY.com , as well as on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Tumblr.
The publication has two primary goals: 1.) to make the critical non-musical business aspects of the jazz industry part of the daily conversation of this music, and 2.) to give jazz musicians the tools and context they need to make informed and effective choices about their careers.
Scott has hooked up with some very experienced people in this project: radio host and producer and noted interviewer Jason Crane of The Jazz Session and singer and organizer Fay Victor.
Well worth checking out for the jazz musician looking to get a leg up on the business. Having worked with a goodly number of independent jazz and world musicians over the past 30 years myself, I can attest to the bumps in the road and hard work that arises for those artists, often at the expense of their creativity time.
I hope musicians who check out onemansjazz.ca will take a look at JazzDIY. |

Glen Hall, long time friend, great musician and great music reviewer, recently interviewed Henry Threadgill for Exclaim, prior to his appearance at the 2011 Guelph Jazz Festival. You must read what Threadgill has to say about music, musicians, and making art. Props to Glen. You can find it here . |
